SuperSport United star midfielder, Teboho Mokoena, caught up with SLTV during this lockdown period to share his journey to stardom and revealed one thing that he’s afraid of.

Born in Bethlehem, Free State, the 23-year-old was raised by his mother as an only child, with his late grandfather playing a vital role in being a father figure during his formative years.

After doing most of his schooling in Bethlehem, he was able to complete his matric in the Harmony Sports Academy. During his time in Virginia, Free State, his football career began to blossom.

During this period, he played in the South African youth setup and by the time he was scouted by the SuperSport United academy, the club’s current CEO Stan Matthews, soon promoted him to the first team.

The midfielder also shared how he spent his first R2,500 paycheck and what he did in his first training session as a Matsastantsa first-team player.

He also revealed five secrets about himself, his relationship with his girlfriend and the impact Dean Furman has had on his career.

During this interview, Mokoena also said…

  • "My mother raised me as a single parent…"
  • "My mom used to support me from the get-go…"
  • "Then I went to train with the first team…"
  • "Criticism is very good for us…"
